Spectator statement at E.O. Events:

Greetings, E.O. athletes and parents –

On February 23rd, the Athletic Advisory Council (AAC) met to assess and discuss current health data and the reintroduction of spectators at to our events.  I am very happy to report the AAC approved permitting home spectators in accordance with the rules below, beginning Monday, March 1st.

Please carefully review these rules and guidelines, as compliance will be essential for us to continue allowance of spectators at our venues. As we continue to move forward, we believe that E.O. Smith is providing an organized plan to ensure that our student-athletes can be competitive, while spectators can enjoy our games, and our school community can remain safe. We expect all student-athletes, coaches, and spectators to adhere to these rules.

  • No visiting spectators
  • Two parents per E.O. player – names are to be provided to the coaches and will be checked upon entry

Boys Swimming: Continuance of no spectators at this time - Awaiting a response from the Mansfield Community Center and Department of Health.

The AAC continues to meet regularly and is monitoring the infection rates in athletics and in the E.O. Smith general population.  As a gentle reminder, it is critical for us to use extra caution with our individual decision making – if you’ve been around someone with COVID-19, or you have any symptoms, even for a very brief time, we ask you to err on the side of caution, meaning (1.) stay home, and (2.) communicate with our health office.  If we are honest with ourselves and maintain good communication with the health office, we can prevent whole teams (or programs) from being sidelined.

With gratitude and appreciation,

E.O. Athletics

*Athletic Advisory Council – This group was formed at the end of May, at the recommendation of the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC), the governing body for high school athletics.  E.O.’s committee is comprised of administrators, teachers, parents, coaches, medical doctors, PH.Ds (in specialized and relevant fields to athletics), and other medical professionals.  This group meets regularly to review guidelines and relevant information, and make decisions regarding E.O. Smith Athletic protocols.  This group determines what we can confidently and reasonably to do ensure the safest conditions for athletic participation.  There are a number of factors unique to E.O. Smith that make implementation most challenging.  This group works hard to make the right decisions.
