Weighted Grades

Due to the rigorous nature of honors, advanced placement and other advanced courses, the Regional School District #19 Board of Education believes that grades earned in such classes deserve additional weight for purposes of calculating grade point average and determining class rank. All district courses are included in the calculating of GPA. The formula for calculation is: (GPA course level quality points x Potential Class Credit)/Sum of Total Potential Credit). The total of these is divided by the sum of the potential course credit.

Advanced Level (AD) includes any advanced course (AD/AP) offered at E.O. Smith that also has an A level option and any course taken on the UCONN campus that is more “advanced” than curriculum offerings in the same subject area at the high school. The following courses will be considered advanced: AD US History, AD World Civ., AD/AP Chemistry, AD Biology, AD Physics, AD Pre-Calculus, AD Calculus, and AD English.
