PM Panthers - Afternoon school at E.O. Smith
This program is a tutorial and classroom based model staffed with certified teachers designed to help students achieve high school success in a smaller student-populated environment than the traditional school day. The academic delivery entails core course lectures with time for assignments and group activities. Students are evaluated on attendance, attitude, improvement and mastery. Students are referred to the program based on their individual needs; often students may be behind in credits, have day program attendance issues (multiple absences) or have behavioral or emotional needs that make it more difficult for them to succeed in the 7:25-2:08 program.
A main goal of the program is to create relationships that foster feelings of resilience in students, and that their efforts can yield success. The low staff to student ratio provides for a close working relationship with students, and aims to develop student trust in their teachers, themselves, and the process of learning.
A School Counselor /Coordinator is on site each day for students who attend the program. The School Counselor provides individual counseling, career and post-secondary counseling and developmental and transition activities for students.
