Audio Shelfie Project

Audio Shelfie Project
Posted on 07/13/2018
Audio Shelfie is a community-based digital storytelling project that gives readers a space to tell stories about the roles books play in their lives. We pose questions about reading and collect stories from participants in communities we visit, as well as on this site. Each story is paired with a photo of the storyteller to create an “audio shelfie.” Together, these audio shelfies form libraries of readers’ experiences with books.

Part of our mission in working with communities (including the community we foster on this site through user submissions) is to create empathy and connection through storytelling. By listening to audio shelfies on this site, listeners may hear similarities to their own story, or benefit from the experiences of readers whose lives have been markedly different from their own.  Talking about books and reading experiences is a way of accessing broader themes of what it means to be human, and connecting with others through those experiences.

Listening guides and other resources on this site are intended to help listeners move through audio shelfies curated around specific themes with guided questions to inspire reflection and conversation. These guides may be used individually, but are ideally suited for community conversations.
