On September 8th Mr. Bowen's Current Events students led a school-wide day of remembrance to honor those lost on 9/11. They handed out hundreds of picture name tags to students and were able to write about what this tragedy means to them. One of those heroes honored was Sergio Gabriel Villanueva who was a firefighter. Sergio an Argentinian native at the age of five immigrated with his family to New York and he had a very successful career with NYPD and FDNY. He was also an avid soccer player and fan of his home country soccer team. On Saturday, September 10th, Mr. Bowen was honored to be invited to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum by Tanya Villanueva Tepper his fiancé in 2001, to meet Sergio's mom Delia, his best friend Fitz and about 30 relatives and friends. They viewed Sergio's Argentina Soccer jersey which is on display in the memorial room the museum. Sergio's family was deeply moved for the work Mr. Bowen does in honoring Sergio. "It was truly an honor to pay tribute to this remarkable human being who was larger than life and touched so many lives. This younger generation will continue to learn about that day and people like Sergio, whose courage put other lives ahead of his own. I will always honor those lost on 9/11 for the rest of my life."
