Health and Physical
Physical Education is a required course for students in grades 9-11. Classes are coed, heterogeneous and reflect a wide range of abilities, interests and previous physical education and sports background. Physical Education classes will be scheduled as follows: Freshmen will be grouped together as much as possible, and Sophomores and Juniors will be combined. Scheduling follows the current philosophy of mainstreaming and programs for those with special needs are offered to fit needs. Students with temporary medical restrictions will have modified workouts provided by the instructor.
Philosophy and Goal
The goal of Physical Education is to have students leave E.O. Smith with the skills and knowledge necessary to participate in a variety of physical activities, to maintain a healthy lifestyle, to understand the various effects of physical activity on one’s mind and body, and to develop interpersonal skills, and exhibit positive character traits during physical activity.
