The Depot Campus
Many students often ask their teachers, "When will we ever need to know this?"
At the Depot Campus of E. O. Smith High School, the answer is, "Now."
Founded in 2008 in collaboration with Big Picture Learning (www.bigpicture.org), the Depot Campus offers students an educational experience that is grounded in real-world experiences. Our students spend every Tuesday and Thursday working at internships and developing independent projects at a growing variety of businesses and organizations in the local community. Everything we do at the Depot Campus on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday is designed to support and supplement the learning that happens at the internship.
Because it is grounded in real-world experiences, the Depot Campus is a different, but powerful approach to college and career readiness. It is ideal for students who have clear career goals and interests, and the ability to be self-motivated and work independently in a variety of settings with peers and adults.
Depot students do not receive traditional grades or follow a traditional curriculum. Instead, they demonstrate their mastery of competencies and specific learning goals through their internships, quarterly exhibitions, and portfolios, and supplement their internship experiences with a variety of online and in-person learning experiences.
The Depot Campus School has been designed to serve up to 40 students who desire this unique educational approach.
