Regional School District #19 Student Performance Goals

All E.O. Smith High School Students will:

1.Meet established literacy performance standards by demonstrating high levels of communication skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening and by using technology;

2.Meet established mathematics performance standards by strengthening their understandings of basic mathematical concepts, relationships & operations and demonstrating the ability to apply them to practical problem solving;

3. Meet established science performance standards by demonstrating knowledge and understanding of natural laws and theories of the physical/life sciences through application of the scientific method to the investigation of natural phenomena.

4. Meet established social studies performance standards by demonstrating their understanding of human affairs through the acquired knowledge of   U. S. history and government, world history and geography.

5. Develop personal skills and demonstrate competencies in the subject areas of fine arts, world languages, vocational arts and/or agriculture education.

6. Cultivate the habits of good citizenship, health and personal responsibility by demonstrating the cooperative life skills necessary to be productive and responsible citizens in our diverse and complex world.

GOAL 1:

All E.O. Smith students will meet established literacy performance standards by demonstrating high levels of communication skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening and by using technology.

Performance Indicators for Goal 1:

1. The number and percentage of students meeting established reading standards in grade 10 as measured by the CAPT Reading Across Disciplines subtest;

2. The number and percentage of students meeting established writing standards in grade 10 as measured by the CAPT Writing Across Disciplines subtest;

3. The number and percentage of students meeting the E.O. Smith English ‘Performance Standard for Graduation;’

4. The number and percentage of students enrolled in college level English classes;

5. The number and percentage of students taking the Scholastic Assessment Test I, the mean Critical Reading score and the percent of students scoring 500 or above;

6. The number and percentage of students taking the Scholastic Assessment Test I, the mean Writing score and the percent of students scoring 500 or above;

7. The number and percent of students who meet established ‘Technology  Performance Standard’ at the end of grade 12.

GOAL 2:

All E.O. Smith students will meet established mathematics performance standards by strengthening their understandings of basic mathematical concepts, relationships and operations, and demonstrating the ability to apply them to practical problem solving.

Performance Indicators for Goal 2:

1. The number and percentage of grade 10 students meeting the CAPT mathematics goal;

2. The number and percentage of students completing four or more years of mathematics course work by graduation;

3. The number of students taking college level mathematics courses each year;

4. The number and percentage of students taking the SAT I, the mean score on the mathematics section, and the percentage of students scoring 500 or above;

5. The number and percentage of the graduating class meeting the ‘E.O. Smith Mathematics Graduation Standard.’

GOAL 3:

All E.O. Smith students will meet established science performance standards by demonstrating knowledge and understanding of natural laws and theories of the physical/life sciences through application of the scientific method to the investigation of natural phenomena.  

Performance Indicators for Goal 3:

1. The number and percentage of grade 10 students meeting the
State Goal on the science subtest of CAPT;

2. The number and percentage of students meeting E.O. Smith Science Performance Standard for Graduation by the end of grade 12 (for implementation in 2007);

3. The number and percentage of EOS seniors who have completed four years of high school science coursework by graduation;

4. The number and percentage of students taking college level
science courses.

GOAL 4:

All E.O. Smith students will meet established social studies performance standards by demonstrating their understanding of human affairs through the acquired knowledge of U. S. history, government, world history and geography.

Performance Indicators for Goal 4:

1. The number and percentage of grade 10 students who meet the State
Goal on the Writing Across the Disciplines section of the CAPT;

2. The number and percentage of students meeting the established E.O. Smith ‘Performance Standard’ in social studies by the end of grade 12;

3. The number of students enrolled in college level courses in U.S.
History, Modern European History and Advanced Economics as a percentage of the total number of 10,11 and 12 grade students;

4. The number of students enrolled in African, Latin, Asian and Middle Eastern studies as a percent of the total number of 12 grade students.

GOAL 5:

All E.O. Smith students will develop personal skills and competencies in the subject areas of fine arts, world languages, vocational arts and/or agriculture education.

Performance Indicators for Goal 5

1. The number and percentage of students successfully completing two or more years of study in a World Language by graduation;

2. The number and percentage of students successfully earning credits in fine and/or performing arts in grades 9-12 (art, band, orchestra, chorus);

3. The number and percentage of students successfully completing courses in vocational arts grades 9-12;

4. The number and percentage of students successfully completing courses in agriculture education grades 9-12.

GOAL 6: 

All E.O. Smith High School students will cultivate the habits of good citizenship, health and personal responsibility by demonstrating the cooperative life skills necessary to be productive and responsible citizens in our diverse and complex world.

Performance Indicators for Goal 6:

1. The number and percentage of students reaching the State Goal on the State Physical Fitness Test in grade10;

2. The number of high school students actively participating in a career-oriented internship (for at least one semester) during high school;

3. The number and percentage of students who are recognized by the school administration for good deportment, successful course completion and school attendance each marking period;

4. The number and percentage of graduating seniors who are accepted and plan to attend four-year colleges, two-year colleges and/or technical schools;

5. The number and percentage of students participating in interscholastic athletics at E.O. Smith High School (listed by sport and as a percent of total enrollment);

6. The cumulative dropout rate reported for E.O. Smith High School;
 
7. The number of students who are members of school wide service organizations (Best Buddies, National Honor Society, Amnesty International, Peer Natural Helpers, etc.).
